There was a multi-stake youth dance with the theme "Villains and Heroes" and Carson and two friends chose to go as different versions of Thor. This guy really got into the costume, choosing Thor when he lets himself go (my favorite movie with Thor, it's so funny), and it was awesome. He made his beard out of yarn and he already had longer hair.
It was too last-minute to order a legit costume, and Carson didn't want us to put much money into a costume he'll wear once, but the girls and I shopped for clothes and fabric to create a costume for Carson. He had options: Thor in civilian clothes (hoodie, jean jacket, green t-shirt) or Thor in his black suit I would create out of a black shirt and gray fabric, with a red cape I would sew. We had everything to make either costume, but the civilian outfit was too hot for this time of year, and he's not the kind who would show up in full costume with a cape. We returned all options.
Then we came up with a minimal costume idea he would actually wear in public to the dance. Paige shopped for a white shirt with me. I found a Thor picture on the internet, and then Dan cut off the head and made the body bigger, printed it onto 3 pieces of fabric transfer paper, and ironed it onto a shirt with Leah's help. The shirt was finished only minutes before the boys left for the dance, phew.
Paige did Carson's Thor hair. And he became sort of a bobble-head Thor. It was enough. A Thor costume that could highlight his hair, but not too extreme and embarrassing of a costume.
